Calling all Mamas....

I know it is early, but we are looking at doing our baby shopping in spurts. Knowing that the bigger ticket items will not be purchased for us as shower gifts, we're considering getting a head start on some of them in the next couple of months.

The items we are thinking about right now are the cribs and the chair for the nursery. I have a feeling the average glider may not be ideal as I'm *hoping* to tandem nurse and those gliders just don't seem wide enough for one mama, two babies and a giant nursing pillow... am I right? What do you suggest? Where is your favorite place to nurse your babies? Will I want something that rocks, or is an over stuffed chair a better option? A rocking recliner?

Also, I've been looking at nursing pillows and it seems the overwhelming majority prefer the twin 'My Breast Friend'. Nearly every review I've read says it is worth every penny that was spent on it. Anyone?

I am a mom of a single baby but I nursed her in our rocker mostly, since she was sleeping so often in her room. I bought a lazyboy instead of just a rocker. I spent many nights in that chair and wanted it to be super comfy. It is a rocker and a recliner that lays flat. It was 399 at our local furniture store and worth every penny. We will move it to our play room after she is done with it so in the end it was a 2 in 1.

I had a my breast friend, I liked it a lot when she was little but as she got bigger, and longer, she didn't fit on there right and we couldn't fit right. After about 2 months old we switched to just the regular boppy.

Hope this helps, I know I don't have twins but just my personal experience.

You are so ahead of the game ;-) I'm at least 2 months...maybe 3 from even thinking about these things. But once you get some mama suggestions I will totally come back to this post and see what everyone suggested for you!

I only have one baby but we got a rocking recliner. I liked the idea of being comfortable and being able to recline back for the late night feeds. I have to say, I did/do a lot of nursing in our bed and during the day, on our couch in the living room. But when I had to get up with her in the middle of the night, I would use the chair in the nursery. It's also nice when we have company and I need to feed her. Another good quality of having a bigger chair is when she gets older and we can sit together in it for bedtime stories. I just don't see a wooden glider being as comfortable or practical for twins (and I remember my friends would tip when you leaned forward to try to stand up) that's my 2 cents ;)

Super ahead of the game but it's good to start thinking about what you need and when you need to get them. We bought the twins cribs and nursery furniture when I was 6 months preggo.

As for nursing, we had a friend loan us her "Twin Breast Friend" pillow and that has been a life saver. At the beginning I would nurse them one at a time because they had different schedules and I would use the boppy. Once they started gaining weight and their schedules matched, I used the twin pillow. I normally nurse them in bed since I can get comfortable and I can adjust their position. I also use it to nurse on the floor when I was at home with them in their nursery. I do have a rocking chair that I used at the beginning to nurse but now I use it to rock them to sleep.

Hope this info helps you out...

The first few days home from the hospital I nursed with the boppy in an upholstered chair in the nursery. Now one month in I do all of the nighttime feedings in our bed (baby is sleeping in a pack n play in our room) and the rest of the time I nurse wherever I am, usually on the couch.

I don't have a breast friend, but I have heard good things about it. The one breast feeding twin mom I know uses a boppy and nurses the babies one at a time.

Had a singleton here, but my advice would be to invest in a really nice rocker/recliner and set that space up with everything you need... for babies and mommy... place for books, drinks, burp cloths, paci's, remote if you have a t.v. in the nursery, etc. We spend a lot of time in our glider rocker and it is so nice to have a cozy area. I would advise to do the same for the changing table... put everything you need at your fingertips because you will spend a lot of time there, lol. At night, we are in our bedroom and I just nurse in the bed. If you had the recliner, especially for those first few weeks... it may be easier just to camp out in the nursery. That's all I've got, good luck! I did do a post just recently called 'newborn stuff' if you are interested. You are on the right track to be researching and finding what you want now... you will not feel like it in a few months! :]

I'm not a mama yet (still 'waiting and wishing'), but I saw this chair recently. It's a 'chair and a half', so it would have a little more room than a traditional upholstered chair or glider.

I can't believe you are purchasing these already! I can't get myself to get anything or start a list at all!! Maybe after next weeks scan I will be able to.
My friends have all sworn by the Breast Friend and insist I have it. Half have said get a comfy glider/rocker for the nursery, the other half say don't waste the money....I guess like everything it's personal preference.
